Vintazia’s Friday Night Vintage Fair

When I first received an invitation to the Vintazia Friday Night Vintage Fair, I have to say I was somewhat intrigued. A vintage fair? On a Friday night you say? In a 17th century barn?! How unusual!

The Amazon: Can Fashion Help Save the Forest?

Last night saw the bringing together of three very interesting figures; Bia Saldahana, the eco entrepreneur behind the label Veja; Ed Siegle, a novelist who has recently brought out a book about Brazil called The Invisibles; and Lucy Siegle, the Observer journalist and all round eco fashion icon. The subject uniting them in conversation? Whether fashion can save the Amazon rainforest.

I have written about Veja before click here. In the early days of my blog I visited their showroom in Shoreditch and met Aurelie, who enthusiastically explained the process involved in making Veja shoes. I was absolutely captivated; Continue reading

Dee dee dum dee dah it’s Nancy Dee!

This post is dedicated to Kasia of chocarome.blogspot.com; thanks to her sweet comment on my last post, I’ve got my a**e in gear to share my latest ethical discoveries with you. I’m sitting in the comfort of my local café with a skinny cappuccino and cheeky slice of carrot cake in hand, though unfortunately the table’s too high so I’m doing that silly shoulders-up-and-elbows-in kind of typing. The icing on the proverbial cake (not the icing on my delicious piece of carrot cake) is that I’ve also just discovered Ricky Martin’s Greatest Hits on Spotify – perhaps I should be keeping that to myself! Here’s hoping I don’t start subconsciously humming La Vida Loca in front of the other customers…

The Reality Behind the Blog…

Having announced with vigor over a week ago that I would be returning to a state of blogaliciousness once again (now there’s a word!), I’ve found myself sitting back and thinking… well, what can I blog about? This may seem like a silly question. You may well be thinking, well, um… don’t you blog about ethical fashion? Suck it up Style Saint and tell us about the latest glorious ethical finds you have discovered!

Unfortunately I am one of those people who has been cursed with the second guessing, or self-questioning gene. I have a tendency to overanalyze everything. So I regularly find myself asking the question, where is my blog going? What am I trying to do here?

The Style Saint is Back!

My darling Saintettes! How are you all? I hope you are enjoying the glorious sunshine and making the most of all the exciting events that summer has to offer.

As you may (or may not!) have noticed, I have been one quiet bunny over the last month. Well I’ve decided it’s time to a) start blogging about the wonderful world of ethical fashion again and b) spill the beans on where I have been so mysteriously hiding away!

My June Vintage and Ethical Fashion Recommendations

Good morning my lovely Saintettes! Alas, I have been one busy bee of late and thus not sharing as much ethical love as I would ideally like to. Unfortunately, due to another little creative project that is vying for every ounce of my attention, I will be off the radar for the month of June. Whether I share this project will depend upon the success of the outcome so watch this space! All very mysterious eh!

Back to the matter at hand; even though I won’t be attending many ethical fashion events, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. Here’s a round-up of my top recommendations for the next month.

Sunday 5th June: Vintage Fashion Fair at Cecil Sharp House
Starting with this weekend, this fashion Continue reading

Celebrating Five Years of Estethica

Last night saw the celebration of Estethica’s fifth birthday, and wow, was it a celebration! London’s most prominent names in the world of ethical fashion arrived in their droves to support our rapidly growing industry. Welcomed with a glass of champagne, the night started with a wander around the live installations created by London Fashion Week’s most recent Estethica exhibitors (including Dr Noki, Junky Styling and The North Circular to name but a few). After being entertained by glamorous knitting grannies and huge blow-up animals, we all settled down to listen to the stunning Livia Firth’s introduction, followed by speeches from the dapper Harold Tillman CBE and Justine Simons’ delivery of the Continue reading

The Goodone Basics collection – sustainable fashion just got affordable

My lovely blog has now been up and running for a grand total of six months (to the day in fact – I started writing that without even realising the date!) I have been on quite the journey. When I started, I remember thinking, ‘even if I cover contemporary sustainable fashion and vintage fashion, will I really have enough to write about?!’ How my eyes have been opened. I now spend my mornings leafing through pages of ideas for blog posts, as there is just so much to write about.

There is one label in particular that holds a dear place in my heart, as I have known about them right from the start. If there was ever a label that has led the way into sustainable fashion, Goodone is it. With their made-to-fit sizes and contemporary upcycled designs, they Continue reading

Incredible ethical clothing sample sale for this weekend only!

I really have been spoilt for choice this week. If I wasn’t so disciplined my credit card could have taken one hell of a bashing. In my experience thus far, it is a rare opportunity when vast quantities of contemporary, stylish ethical clothing cluster together in easily-shoppable venues. Not only did I attend EJF’s Pop Up shop earlier this week, but I also stumbled upon an ethical clothing sample sale. Just the sound of the words ‘ethical’ and ‘sale’ in the same sentence makes me rub my hands together in gleeful delight!
Ethical Clothing Sample Sale
The sample sale started at 4pm yesterday at the Old Truman Brewery (old muggins here turned up at 11am to find piles of boxes of ethical clothing and five hours to kill) and will continue Continue reading

Visit EJF’s Pop Up Shop for all your Ethical Shopping Needs

You know what I love? I love a good pop up shop. Do you know why? It’s because there’s something really desirable about anything that has a limitation attached to it. I guess it’s similar to the psychology behind bringing out a limited edition handbag – women will fight over it as there clearly won’t be enough to go round. As well as this, all the pop up shops/bars/whatevers that I have visited have always been decked out by some talented creative bods, adding an element of arty luxury to the experience.

So, take my general lusting over pop up shops, toss it into a blender with designer ethical shopping and one of the most influential charities to impact the world of fashion, and what do you get? One very happy Style Saint!
